Wi-Fi 7 testing in R&D

Wi-Fi 7 testing in R&D

The R&S CMX500 radio communication tester is adding the next radio interface to its technology coverage, namely Wi-Fi. This enables users of the Rohde & Schwarz one-box tester to test the non-cellular interface up to the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard in addition to the cellular 4G and 5G interfaces of a device. Any interworking and influencing effect between cellular and non-cellular can be tested in a very convenient way thanks to the multi-channel, multi technology architecture of the R&S CMX500 platform.

Rohde & Schwarz's advanced NB-IoT testing solution is powered by the R&S CMW500 radio communication tester, now supporting optimal NB-NTN functionality. Our services involve but are not limited to R&D, conformance, and operator testing scenarios. We are proud to offer support for protocol, RRM, RF conformance, and Skylo Network compatibility. Imagine our solution as a true partner for your advanced work requirements. Our goal is to ensure that your devices keep up with the evolving digital landscape.

Towards 6G: integrated sensing and communication (ISAC)

Towards 6G: integrated sensing and communication (ISAC)

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) enables the detection of objects in proximity of base stations or user devices and data communication within the very same technology, namely within 6G. This demonstration shows how to objectively measure sensing performance based on test instruments, which enable object emulation in terms of distance, speed and radar cross section (RCS) in mmWave spectrum. The device under test (DUT) in this demo is provided by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Towards 6G: AI-native interface – neural receiver

Towards 6G: AI-native interface – neural receiver

With research on the technological components of the future 6G wireless communication standard in full swing, the possibilities of an AI-native air interface are also being explored. In collaboration with NVIDIA, Rohde & Schwarz takes another step forward and presents an enhancement to its recent hardware-in-the-loop demonstration of a neural receiver, showing the achievable performance gains when using trained AI/ML models compared to traditional signal processing – while also optimizing the transmitter side and for the first time taking hardware impairments into account. Instead of relying on well-known, symmetric constellations such as QPSK or QAM modulations, the constellation points are determined in an end-to-end learning process, which jointly optimizes the neural receiver and the constellation mapper of the transmitter while taking the faded mobile radio channel and carrier frequency offsets into account.

Power consumption testing for smartphone energy labeling

Power consumption testing for smartphone energy labeling

Mobile phones and tablets placed on the EU market will require an Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) labeling from June 20th, 2025 onwards to display information on their energy efficiency, battery longevity and more. Rohde & Schwarz and SmartViser have partnered to develop a solution for testing compliance with the new regulation. The solution is based on the R&S CMX500 radio communication tester that supports end-to-end testing of all signaling use cases and SmartViser’s viSer test automation application.

Testing 5G WLAN offloading with Voice over WLAN in a single box

Testing 5G WLAN offloading with Voice over WLAN in a single box

The powerful R&S CMX500 radio communication tester redefines testing of 5G to WLAN traffic offloading. The R&S CMX500 is able to test seamless traffic offloading and interworking between cellular 5G and non-cellular WLAN with a single box solution. Testing WLAN offloading with Voice over WLAN is made easy with the newly integrated Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) gateway, and the integrated POLQA voice quality measurement function ensures crystal-clear voice quality at an early stage.

Towards 6G: Wideband sub-THz communication testing

Towards 6G: Wideband sub-THz communication testing

THz communication is an important research area for 6G, the next generation of wireless communication. The new R&S SFI100A wideband IF vector signal generator was developed to meet bandwidth needs for demanding applications such as early 6G research. The instrument significantly simplifies modulated measurements in the sub-THz frequency region.

O-RU energy efficiency testing

O-RU energy efficiency testing

Radio units contribute greatly to the total power consumption. Rohde & Schwarz offers a proven, automated test solution together with VIAVI Solutions that explores how radio unit power consumption varies under different user conditions through the application of ETSI-defined load profiles. The radio unit activity versus power consumption is monitored using the R&S RTO oscilloscope to detect short power pulses or spikes. The results make it easy to evaluate energy efficiency measures such as advanced sleep modes and provide ratings for radio units based on their power consumption. The R&S NGP power supply units power the radio unit and monitor voltage and current statistics over time.

Towards 6G: MIMO measurements up to 110 GHz

Towards 6G: MIMO measurements up to 110 GHz

The new R&S FE110ST/SR TX/RX frontends extend the frequency range of Rohde & Schwarz signal sources such as the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and signal analysis instruments such as the R&S RTP oscilloscope to cover the W band from 70 GHz to 110 GHz. They complement the company’s portfolio of easy-to-mount frontends. The video demonstrates signal transmission and analysis of a 2x2 MIMO signal at 90 GHz.
