Welcome to KTH's highly appreciated course in collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz, RF Measurements – A Course in Applied Spectrum and Network Analysis.

We are delighted to invite you to two intensive and hands-on course days focused on practical RF measurements, spectrum analysis, and network analysis. Whether you work within radar, radio communications, or telecommunications, this course offers a unique opportunity to strengthen your understanding of RF measurement techniques through a combination of theory, demonstrations, and practical exercises. Led by experienced instructors from academia and industry, the course provides valuable insights that can be directly applied in your daily work. You will also have the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss real-world challenges with fellow professionals in the field. Course main content

• Introduction to radio communication (analog and digital modulation, antennas, link budget)
• Basic concepts (characteristic impedance, wavelength, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), decibels)
• Components of the measurement system - Passive components (cables, attenuators, power splitters, directional couplers, etc.) - Active components (mixers and amplifiers)
• Network analyzer (calibration, S-parameters, frequency sweep, power sweep, etc.)
• Noise and noise terminology (noise sources, SNR, SINAD, noise figure, noise temperature)
• The spectrum analyzer (the sweeping superheterodyne receiver, block diagram, input attenuation, reference level, span vs. sweep time vs. RBW, selectivity, zero-span, RBW vs. VBW, detector modes)
• Hands-on practical exercises and demonstrations - Spectrum analysis 1 (basic settings) - Network analysis (calibration and various types of measurements) - Spectrum analysis 2 (measurements and techniques)  

Course disposition The course blends practical measurements, exercises, and demonstrations with basic theory and conceptual understanding. There will be ample opportunities for questions, discussions, and the exchange of experiences with both the teachers and fellow participants.
