Dr. Thomas Stockhammer

After acting as cofounder and CEO of Novel Mobile Radio (NoMoR) Research for 10 years and a consultant for Siemens mobile, BenQ mobile, LG Electronics and Digital Fountain, Thomas Stockhammer joined Qualcomm in 2014 as Director Technical Standards.

Thomas has co-authored more than 200 research publications and more than 150 patents and 1000s of contributions to standardization efforts. In his day job, he is the active and has leadership and rapporteur positions in 3GPP, DVB, MPEG, IETF, ATSC, CTA, ETSI and the DASH-Industry Forum around multimedia communication, TV-distribution, 5G Broadcast, content delivery protocols, immersive media representation and adaptive streaming.

Thomas received the Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees from the Munich University of Technology, Munich, Germany.

Thomas Janner

Thomas Janner is Director of R&D Signal Processing for Transmitter and Amplifier Systems at Rohde & Schwarz. In addition, he is Director of Product Management for Transmitter Systems and Satellite Uplinks since 2019. Thomas graduated as communications engineer in Stuttgart 1992. He joined Rohde & Schwarz as development engineer for Transmitter Systems in 2001.

Xia Zhiping

Mr. Xia Zhiping is Professorate Senior Engineer of Academy of Broadcasting Science (ABS), National Radio & Television Administration (NRTA) of China. Mr. Xia joined the Chinese 5G Broadcasting Project AIB (Advance Interactive Broadcasting) in 2018 and has extensively studied the FeMBMS approach.

As one of the R&D leaders in ABS, Mr. Xia engaged on terrestrial broadcasting research over 17 years and was awarded 30 prizes from NRTA for his outstanding contribution. He has also published more than 20 papers for his research. He was born in 1978 in Jiangsu Province, and obtained his master’s degree on Electromagnetic & Engineering from China University of Communication in 2003.

David Owens

David Owens MSc CENG FIET is the Head of Technical Trials at Telefonica O2 responsible for external trials. David works on external 5G projects with UK Government, Startups & Academic institutions.

David’s areas of expertise are: Propagation & Antennas, Traffic Modeling & Strategy, Measurement & Reporting of Customer Experience, and Operational Management of cellular network. David has particular interest in smartphone performance and applications, coverage planning tools and geographic information systems.

Dr. Abhishek Tiwari

Dr. Abhishek Tiwari is the Communications Systems Lead with Facebook. Abhishek is currently leading or has led several advanced technology development programs at Facebook in diverse areas of LTE-Broadcast, 5G Broadcast, video quality of experience optimization over cellular networks, wide area cellular coverage, high capacity mm-wave links, massive MIMO base stations. Abhishek holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and technology management from the California Institute of Technology.

Dr. Roland Beutler

Dr. Roland Beutler has been participating in EBU technical activities for more than 20 years and has chaired several EBU groups dealing with the future of broadcast distribution systems. He was chair of the several of EBU’s Strategic Programmes and Project Teams. Currently he acts as chairman for the Strategic Programme on Distribution. This group coordinates the engagement of European broadcasters in 3GPP, the global standardization organization of mobile technology. Roland Beutler is actively participating in different 3GPP groups to support the requirements of broadcasters for 4G and 5G developments. He is also a member of the Steering Group of the 5G Media Action Group.

Roland Beutler is also involved in ITU and CEPT work and has been responsible for several of their working groups, both radio and TV related. Roland studied Physics at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from the Max-Planck-Institute for Metal Physics, also in Stuttgart.

Mohamed Aziz Taga

Mohamed Aziz Taga is product manager for 5G Broadcast/Multicast & Transmitter Systems with Rohde & Schwarz, Munich, Germany. Aziz leads the 5G Broadcast/Multicast activities and associated projects worldwide. After obtaining his Master degree in Computer Networking and Telecommunications, Taga became a Mobile Core Network Specialist with an extensive Cellular PDN/EPC/IMS technical background before joining Rohde & Schwarz in 2018.
