We are looking for a Logistics Transportation Specialist to support project-related business. This position will manage end-to-end movement of goods to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective delivery across domestic and global lanes. Oversee day-to-day scheduling and carrier performance, manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors (including global carriers and 3PLs), and deliver accurate metrics and reporting to support business decisions. This job will manage performance of all shipment types including LTL, parcel, ocean, air, project-based shipments and any others that may arise. This position can be based out of either Columbia, MD or Frederick, MD.

Your tasks

  • Oversee day-to-day transportation operations for all shipment types (LTL, parcel, project-based shipments, air and sea movement, etc.).
  • Manage LTL-specific activities: classify freight according to NMFC code and freight class, calculate dimensions, weight, etc.
  • Optimize palletization, packaging and consolidation of shipments in conjunction with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Tender shipments to carriers and 3PLs, following organizational requirements while managing carrier capacity and adhering to compliance requirements.
  • Develop, maintain and report on transportation metrics and KPIs; analyze the data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state and international transportation and customs regulations.
  • Control transportation costs by monitoring spend, negotiating shipping and warehousing rates, and identifying opportunities for savings and process efficiencies.
  • Manage relationships with logistics vendors and 3PL partners; maintain vendor performance standards and resolve service issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align transportation plans with project timelines and business needs; communicate potential issues promptly and accurately.
  • Proactively monitor shipments and escalate through the proper channels in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a primary interface with both internal and external stakeholders (distributors, brokers, carriers).
  • Work with leadership to prioritize business needs and support cross-functional initiatives to improve overall logistics performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your manager

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or equivalent transportation and logistics experience, including managing 3PLs and global freight
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, carrier practices, and basic accounting/finance principles related to freight and warehousing
  • Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of LTL and freight shipping operations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with SAP/ERP systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with building reports
  • To be considered, candidates must have US citizenship or permanent work authorization.
  • Ability to travel if needed (up to 10%) Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau) or SQL
  • Professional certifications such as APICS/ASCM CSCP, CSCMP, or other logistics certifications are a plus

The total compensation for this position is $27-$36 per hour. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
