From Nominal Values to Real Behavior: Importance of a Proper Characterization of Passive Components in Power Converters

Presented by Gabriel Rojas, Rohde & Schwarz,

Passive components strongly influence the efficiency, stability, and reliability of power electronics converters. Despite of this, their real behavior often differs from datasheet values.

This presentation shows the importance of selecting and characterizing passive components using LCR meters. Key parameters such as inductance, capacitance, ESR, and frequency dependence are discussed. Additionally, it shows how to identify parasitic elements and non-ideal behavior, particularly at high frequencies.
