Web Page, VNC and FTP on R&S® DC Power Supplies, and on LCR Meters R&S®LCX

This application note applies to DC power supplies R&S®NGL200, R&S®NGM200, R&S®NGP800, R&S®NGU201 and R&S®NGU401, as well as LCR meters R&S®LCX100 and R&S®LCX200. It provides an overview over ethernet-based remote services provided by the referenced R&S® instruments. These services comprise an instrument web page, VNC remote control and FTP file transfer between the instrument and a remote computer. The application note gives instructions on how to set up the instrument and the remote computer in order to be able to utilize these services.

This application program supports the logging and fast logging functionality of the power supplies R&S® NGM200, NGU201 and NGU401. Efficiency Measurement of a 3-Phase Inverter for a BLDC Motor

This application note introduces the reader to the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition project and their special demands for the electrical drive train. Common motor technology like brushless motors and their typical control methods widely used in the industry are also discussed within this document.However, the main focus of this paper is a demonstration of a power measurement method of a three-phase inverter by means of a 4-channel oscilloscope. Not only the theory of the power measurement is presented but also the conducted measurement is presented including tips and tricks to obtain the best measurement results.The measurement solution provided by Rohde & Schwarz was mandatory for the TUM Hyperloop team to overcome challenges in optimization of the electrical drive train used in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition project.Many thanks to Mr. Johannes Ungar and Faruk Centinkaya (TUM Hyperloop) for contributing significantly to this application note. By combining their expertise in electrical drive trains used in the Hyperloop Project and with a Test & Measurement solution from Rohde & Schwarz, we have achieved synergies that will be beneficial for any design and test engineers in the industry.

The R&S®NGP800 DC power supply series, comprised of five models with 400 W or 800 W, provides maximum power at a variety of operating points. The two or four 200 W outputs can each supply up to 64 V or up to 20 A. Electrically equivalent and galvanically isolated outputs can be wired in series or parallel for up to 250 V or 80 A.

Symmetric Supply with R&S® Power Supplies

Analog circuits like operational amplifiers often require a symmetric supply with supply ground, positive rail and negative rail. The supply ground is the reference for analog signals in the circuit.The channels in R&S® multi-channel power supplies are galvanically completely floating against each other as well as against safety earth. This provides the maximum flexibility for connecting channels in parallel or in series to provide increased current or voltage output, or for split or symmetric supply.This application note describes how to configure two outputs for a symmetric supply, providing both positive and negative rails.The instructions apply also to both discontinued and future multi-channel models of R&S® power supplies.
