Recent technical innovations are advancing radio access networks (RAN): Massive MIMO (M MIMO) dramatically increases network capacity and efficiency, and the evolution of Open RAN (O-RAN) is making RAN more open, flexible and efficient.
Ensuring that open radio units (O-RU) meet both O-RAN ALLIANCE and 3GPP requirements is essential for reliable, high-performance deployments.
This is where Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions come in. The two companies have collaborated to offer a fully integrated O-RU test solution that address these new conformance needs:
- VIAVI TM500 O-RU Tester emulates the O-DU for a controlled test environment.
- Rohde & Schwarz vector signal generator and vector signal analyzer connect to the O-RU via a switch unit.
- Rohde & Schwarz power supply delivers power to the O-RU.
- Test setup is fully controlled via the VIAVI O-RU Test Manager, running on a PC together with the R&S®VSE (Vector Signal Explorer) for RF monitoring.
The test setup can also be used when M-MIMO with beamforming capabilities is integrated into the O-RU. Simply adding a Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope and phase shift matrix enables conformance testing in line with the O-RAN ALLIANCE beamforming standards.
