R&S®NESTOR – GNSS interference detection

The jamming and spoofing of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) is a growing threat that can significantly degrade GNSS receiver performance and jeopardize systems that rely on accurate positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) data. The threats can impact critical operations in transportation, public safety, critical infrastructure and autonomous systems.

GNSS interference detection (GID) with R&S®NESTOR cellular network analysis software detects GNSS jamming and spoofing in real time and provides alerts and insights. Identifying interference as it occurs helps quickly assess the situation, mitigate risks and maintain operational continuity in challenging RF environments.

Your task

GNSS signals are inherently weak, since they originate from satellites approximately 20000 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. GNSS-based systems are very vulnerable to intentional interference from commercial jamming and spoofing devices.

GNSS jamming disrupts satellite signal reception by transmitting interfering radio signals on GNSS frequency bands. GNSS spoofing uses fake satellite signals to manipulate position, navigation or timing information. Such attacks may affect a wide range of applications, including unmanned systems, aviation, autonomous vehicles, critical infrastructure and networks that depend on timesynchronization. GNSS interference incidents have been increasing worldwide and organizations need efficient mechanisms to detect, analyze and respond to threats before they can impact operations.

To effectively counter GNSS interference, modern detection solutions must:

  • Detect in real time with minimal latency
  • Reliably identify jamming and spoofing sources
  • Provide intuitive visualizations and situational awareness
  • Comprehensively analyze capabilities for rapid decision-making
  • Seamlessly integrate into existing operational workflows

Rohde&Schwarz solution

R&S®NESTOR cellular network analysis (CNA) software includes dedicated GID capabilities for monitoring GNSS jamming and spoofing events. Based on GNSS measurements reported by connected R&S®TSMx scanners, R&S®NESTOR automatically detects interferencerelated anomalies and immediately alerts operators. The integrated view provides rapid insight into GNSS conditions and supports efficient threat assessment.

Why R&S®NESTOR?

Automated GNSS interference detection

R&S®NESTOR continuously evaluates GNSS measurements from deployed R&S®TSMx scanners. When a scanner uncovers GNSS jamming or spoofing, the GID module automatically displays the anomalies and generates real-time alerts. Operators can quickly identify interference events and assess their operational impact without manual data analysis.

Clear and intuitive visualization

R&S®NESTOR provides a concise overview of detected GNSS interference events and affected scanners. The intuitive visualization improves situational awareness, helps identify trends or recurring incidents and enables faster evaluation of potential threats.

Advanced software analytics

The GID view provides access to key GNSS performance indicators, including:

  • Current GNSS status
  • Historical deviations and anomalies
  • GNSS spectrum visualization
  • Real-time interference alerts
  • Event history and trend analysis

GNSS interference incidents can be efficiently investigated and assessed.
