The R&S®ZVA-K7 option supports point-in-pulse and pulse profile measurements of absolute powers and of the magnitude and phase of S-parameters on pulses with very short widths.

The pulse-profile technique of the R&S®ZVA-K7 option offers measurement bandwidths up to 10 MHz (30 MHz with restrictions). It allows the measurement of amplifiers and mixers versus time with pulses narrower than 100 ns in width and with a time resolution of 12.5 ns. It can analyze single pulses, double pulses, or pulse trains of up to 3 ms length. A special algorithm for compensating the group delay of the DUT makes it possible to measure pulses whose length is shorter than the group delay of the DUT.

The R&S®ZVA-K7 option includes the R&S®ZVA-K17 option (IF bandwidth up to 5 MHz for all sweep modes).

If the R&S®ZVAxx-B16 direct generator/receiver access option is installed in addition, the R&S®ZVA can perform pulsed measurements using either pulsed generators or pulse modulators.

Differences between the R&S®ZVA-K7 and the R&S®ZVA-B7 option

The R&S®ZVA-K7 and the R&S®ZVA-B7 options feature identical functionality – the only difference being that the R&S®ZVA-K7 offers a maximum recording time of 3 ms per sweep and the R&S ZVA-B7 of 25 ms per sweep.

The R&S®ZVA-K7 can be used with all R&S®ZVA and R&S®ZVT models irrespective of the number of test ports. For the R&S®ZVA-B7, which can be used with the R&S®ZVA only, a variant corresponding to the number of test ports must be used:

Principle of pulse profile measurements

The A/D converter outputs uncorrected sampling values, which are first stored in a high-speed buffer (RAM), and then digitally processed block by block up to the display (see blue arrows in block diagram). Therefore, with sampling performed independently of signal processing, the pulse signal can be sampled at the converter's maximum rate of 80 MHz.
