Broadcasters Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) have launched the world's first terrestrial ATSC 3.0 broadcast network in South Korea for free UHDTV broadcasts. The network includes a total of 31 Rohde & Schwarz transmitter systems at 11 locations. In the capital Seoul, regular operation began at the end of May 2017; other regions will follow by the end of the year. Viewers will be able to enjoy UltraHD (UHD) quality in time for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Rohde & Schwarz has developed the world's first IT server-based exciter solution for ATSC 3.0 broadcasts – the R&S SDE900. It provides broadcasters with an easy upgrade path for existing transmitters, such as the R&S THU9 and R&S THU9evo high-power transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz, to ATSC 3.0 and future standards. In March 2017, Rohde & Schwarz was the major transmitter supplier in the successful, large-scale DVB-T2 rollout in Germany. Thanks to the transmitters and the service support for one of the largest switchover procedures in German broadcast history, the rollout ran smoothly and took only one night. The company will showcase its solutions in booth SL1205 at NAB 2017 in Las Vegas from April 22 to April 27.

Six out of seven national broadcasters have chosen to deploy the Rohde & Schwarz R&S THU9evo digital transmitter for their primary broadcasts from One World Trade Center in New York City. Two of the stations will soon share the largest solid-state digital transmitter in the world, an R&S THU9evo that began broadcasting in June 2017. Five additional stations will be relocating to 1WTC in the coming weeks and rely on their own Rohde & Schwarz transmitters to serve the New York market (DMA #1).

WPBT South Florida PBS has contracted premier transmitter, test and measurement and studio equipment manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz to provide a turnkey solution for its FCC repack transition.
