IMS has been created as the long-term solution for covering voice over LTE (VoLTE) and connecting circuit-switched and packet-switched calls.

Kyocera has developed an innovative mmWave phased array antenna module (PAAM) that simultaneously creates multiple beams in different directions at different frequencies. These PAAMs can enable a wide range of 5G FR2 infrastructure installations, including site co-location of different operators running networks on different frequency bands, as well as critical infrastructure threat-sensing, homeland security, and other high-reliability applications. The China Telecommunication Technology Labs (CTTL) Terminal labs at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) successfully conducted specific absorption rate and hearing aid compatibility testing for 5G new radio mobile devices. The lab upgraded their DASY8 high-precision electromagnetic near-field scanning platform from SPEAG, the leading provider of dosimetric test systems, with the R&S CMX500 OBT 5G one-box signaling tester from Rohde & Schwarz. Designing a 5G FR2 phased array antenna module (PAAM) requires over-the-air (OTA) testing to measure parameters like equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) and effective isotropic sensitivity (EIS) in addition to traditional radiation patterns. Rohde & Schwarz has joined Fujikura and Avnet to validate their new development kit for 5G mmWave phased array antenna modules. The R&S ATS800B benchtop CATR OTA test system from Rohde & Schwarz is ideal for prototype testing in an open environment.

Rohde & Schwarz is advancing its pioneering sub-THz research in the D-Band and has reached important milestones. In collaboration with the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), the test and measurement expert has successfully characterized a TX/RX multi-antenna chip (CHARM) operating at up to 140 GHz, using their D-Band over-the-air (OTA) test chamber. Academia and industry leaders agree that the 110 GHz to 170 GHz frequency range, known as D-Band, is critical for beyond 5G and 6G mobile communications and future automotive radar applications.
