Systems Engineering : Chief Systems Engineer, Air Traffic Control for IP-based Voice Communication Systems - Maryland

Your tasks

• Serve as the senior technical lead for major North American air traffic control and critical infrastructure programs, including FAA and other government customers.
• Lead the development of technical solutions for complex communications systems, from customer engagement through architecture, integration, deployment, and acceptance.
• Drive system architecture, requirements decomposition, interface definition, and technical decisions across engineering teams.
• Guide R&D and product teams on customer needs, market direction, and technology roadmap priorities in the ATC/ATM domain.
• Provide technical leadership to systems, integration, and test teams delivering mission-critical communications systems.
• Act as a subject matter expert on North American ATC requirements, standards, and deployment considerations.
• Lead technical exchange meetings with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders as a senior technical representative for R&S.
• Support proposals, technical documentation, contract deliverables, and compliance materials.
• Support demonstrations, technical presentations, training, and selected industry events.

Your qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience deploying communications, telecom, or networking systems for government or critical infrastructure customers.
• Strong experience with IP-based voice communications systems, including SIP, RTP, and SNMP, ideally in ATC/ATM or other mission-critical environments.
• Working knowledge of Linux-based environments, networking, and cybersecurity principles.
• Experience in system architecture, requirements development, and technical leadership across cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of ATC standards and best practices, such as ED-137.
• Ability to lead with credibility, influence decisions, and align teams around complex solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, organized, analytical, and self-directed.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Ability to travel up to 30% domestically, with occasional international travel.

The total compensation for this position is $178K-$238K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
