Safe and efficient solutions for area control centers
Although overall demand for air travel continues to rise, especially in emerging countries, en-route flight volumes cannot be reliably predicted. Routing patterns change depending on weather conditions and political crises or unrest can rule out flying across certain regions. To cope with increasing, but also highly volatile en-route traffic volumes, air navigation service providers (ANSP) require systems and operational models for their area control centers that allow them to quickly upscale their capacities while still remaining flexible and optimizing staff deployment.
The CERTIUM advanced communications suite provides solutions to these challenges. Thanks to a full IP based architecture, it supports a pay-as-you grow approach. For example, the voice communication system CERTIUM VCS quickly upscales the number of controller working positions in one center from a few dozen to several hundred. CERTIUM Radios are the perfect match for this, with a proven track record of nationwide communications infrastructures with thousands of radios. With CERTIUM Management, engineering teams have the status of all systems at their fingertips and benefit from multiple layers of redundancy. This maximizes system availability and safety.
CERTIUM Locate offers the controller enhanced situational awareness even for dense en-route traffic by automatically georeferencing calling aircraft on the radar screen. This reduces call-sign confusion and psychological stress for the controller and increases safety.
For ATC area control centers, Rohde & Schwarz offers an IP-ready, future-proof solution that meets the evolving needs of modern air traffic control systems. Our CERTIUM components are designed to take advantage of IP technology, providing high flexibility and network resilience in accordance with EUROCAE ED-136 and ED-137 standardized network elements. To ensure the reliability of these IP-based systems, we provide the R&S®AVQA analysis system, which continuously monitors every single link within the system to guarantee full functionality. This is achieved through passive mid-point data flow analysis, where individual IP links are tapped, mirrored traffic is evaluated, and results are sent to a central manager for real-time monitoring and analysis.
For decades, air navigation service providers around the globe have relied on Rohde & Schwarz systems for their daily operations. More than 30,000 ATC radios deployed and more than 200 VCSs contracted worldwide, the company has a proven track record.
