We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support our growing communications system business within the technology systems market in Air Traffic Control (ATC). As a global leader in ATC, R&S secures communication from the controller's microphone through to the tower's antenna. Join us to learn about real systems deployed throughout global Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and your part in advancing our products in the U.S. It's your chance to contribute directly to enabling reliable critical infrastructures used in everyday travel and play a crucial role in our international team. The preferred work location for this position is Columbia, Maryland but exceptional candidates residing near our office in the DFW area may be considered.

Your tasks

  • Design, integrate, and deploy R&S Air Traffic Control (ATC) project IP-based voice communications solutions; this includes radio & telephony analog protocol converters and networking
  • Take, derive, and translate customer needs into requirements. Create complete system architecture with high-level to detailed designs. Ensure requirement compliance satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle. Review and approve technical drawings and specifications with peer teams.
  • Provide technical support from project initiation to closeout, bringing a requirement validation and customer satisfaction first mindset and serve as the technical interface between internal and external clients
  • Orchestrate and conduct internal and customer system design and requirement events within project schedule and budget
  • Develop and maintain high quality internal and external system design and configuration documentation with peer product, configuration management, and quality engineering teams
  • Lead product certification by coordinating with external labs and managing product assets in both Canada and the United States
  • Support test team with test planning and support test execution
  • Support training team with event execution and customer management
  • Provide routine internal and external customer updates on engineering activities
  • Provide expert level technical support and troubleshooting of voice communication systems

Your qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or relevant engineering degree.
  • 5+ years of systems test experience in telecom/networking industry with strong understanding of process, development and execution of US Government test programs.
  • Proficient in relevant business tools including MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint), Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence) and MS Teams.
  • Familiar to strong experience in radio and voice communication systems (VCS) including configuring and testing legacy telephony circuits, ED-137 standards, VHF/UHF radios, antennas, VoIP networking and telephony tools, e.g., Wireshark, WAN/SATCOM simulators, Cisco switch configurations and emulators
  • Experience with scripting tools, analysis, test and measurement equipment, such as spectrum analyzers
  • Excellent understanding of industry best practices and standards, including NIST and NESSUS cybersecurity standards; networking protocols including SIP, RTP, SNMP
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, up to 30%
  • Ability to operate with considerable autonomy and minimal supervision and deliver high quality artifacts. Proactive, highly organized, analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication and customer interface skills (verbal and written)

The total compensation for this position is $120K-$170K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
