Este documento se divide en dos partes y comienza con una introducción a los principios de conversión CA/CC en general. Se presentan los circuitos más comunes utilizados para diferentes niveles de potencia. Se tratan principalmente los convertidores de fuente conmutada (SMPS), puesto que son los más utilizados en electrónica. Se hace especial hincapié en el diseño de convertidor de transferencia indirecta en diferentes variantes. No obstante, todas las medidas son igualmente aplicables a otros diseños de convertidor SMPS que funcionen con niveles de potencia altos.En la segunda parte del documento se abordan los métodos y procedimientos de medida más importantes de un convertidor CA/CC. Para cada apartado dedicado a las medidas se abordarán primeramente una serie de nociones básicas, para presentar a continuación el método de medida apropiado. En esta segunda parte, el dispositivo bajo prueba (DUT) se considera como «caja negra», por lo que la estructura es similar. De este modo, los apartados sobre las medidas incluyen los métodos para los test de entrada, para los test de salida y una combinación de ambos, como eficiencia. Naturalmente, algunos test ejecutados en la salida del convertidor son también relevantes para un convertidor CC/CC, p. ej. la validación del rizado de la salida.
