R&S®Trusted Endpoint Suite receives VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) approval “Secure Workstation” from the BSI

The innovative R&S Trusted Endpoint Suite security solution from IT security expert Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity has received VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) approval as a "Secure Workstation" from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The solution is aimed in particular at government agencies and companies which are obliged to secrecy.

Munich, September 6, 2022 – With its highly secure VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) workstation, Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity enables public institutions and private companies to secure workstations in such a way that classified information can be stored and processed. The solution has received VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) approval from the BSI for this purpose.

The workstation based on R&S Trusted Endpoint Suite consists of two components on a unified software architecture: R&S Trusted VPN Client and R&S Trusted Disk. R&S Trusted VPN Client protects the network communication of a client platform (Windows laptop, tablet) with a government or corporate network over an untrusted network such as the Internet. Additional security is provided by the "Always On" mode. This means that users are never unprotected in an untrusted network - whether in the office or on a business trip in a hotel, train or plane. R&S Trusted VPN Client implements a zero-trust-to-OS-based VPN solution that does not require trust in potentially insecure components such as an operating system. The so-called red-black separation (network separation between red classified data and black Internet traffic) takes place outside the operating system, so that even in the event of vulnerabilities and security flaws in the operating system, a leakage of classified data can be prevented. With comprehensive interface management, it is possible to conveniently and centrally control which USB devices employees are allowed to connect - even a completely restrictive mode (default block) is possible.

R&S Trusted Disk full-disk encryption protects sensitive data from unauthorized access with secure and transparent encryption in real time without restricting productivity, even in the event of loss or theft. In addition to data, R&S Trusted Disk also encrypts the entire operating system and temporary data. Even access to portable data storage devices such as USB flash drives or external hard disks can be protected. Modern random number generation as well as flexible recryption based on time and data volume guarantee that the high security level is constantly maintained.

R&S Trusted Endpoint Suite also offers impressive hardware flexibility. Users can use existing endpoints and there is generally no need to purchase additional hardware. The central and intuitive management system makes administration easy. Not least because only one smart card is required for all components of the platform. This reduces administration effort and provides maximum security while maintaining productivity.

For additional protection of the VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) workstation, the virtual environment for secure web surfing, R&S Browser in the Box, closes the "Internet" security gap by providing a digital quarantine for attacks: malware is isolated before it even gets a chance to run. For VS-NfD (RESTRICTED) compliant email and data encryption, R&S Trusted Endpoint Suite can also be extended with GnuPG VS-Desktop®.
