Automotive Radar Test System from Rohde & Schwarz named Test Product of the Year at the Elektra Awards

Rohde & Schwarz today announced that its R&S RTS Radar Test System was named Test Product of the Year at the Elektra Awards 2021 organised by Electronics Weekly. The prestigious industry prize was presented at a Gala Dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, United Kingdom.

The R&S RTS was selected for the Award by an independent panel of judges. The system overcomes several obstacles to testing automotive radar systems used for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) systems, enabling faster introduction to market and increasing public confidence in their safety.

The number of radar on-board today’s vehicles is increasing and as a result, more scenarios need to be tested. These include situations such as other vehicles incoming at various angles and with high closing speeds: for example, to detect and avoid impact with an approaching bicycle or motorcycle. The R&S RTS reduces the need for time-consuming field testing, providing an effective way of accurately recreating these scenarios in the laboratory.”

The R&S RTS comprises of the R&S AREG800 radar echo generator and R&S QAT100 antenna array. It can be used at all stages of radar sensor testing, from pre-development through hardware-in-the-loop lab tests to validation of ADAS/AD functions integrated in the vehicle. Instead of requiring testers to physically move antennas, the R&S RTS uses innovative techniques including electronically switching antennas on and off to simulate the effects of individual objects moving in various directions and at various speeds relative to the vehicle.

The Elektra Awards, which are now in their nineteenth year, were held in London. Seeking to recognise the achievements of individuals and companies across Europe, the awards are hotly contested and the R&S RTS was picked from a shortlist of six for this category.
