UWB（ウルトラワイドバンド）テクノロジーは、免許不要の周波数帯で動作するデバイス間通信用の近距離広帯域無線テクノロジーです。モバイルデバイス間の正確でセキュアなピアツーピア測距を可能にする最適なRF位置決めテクノロジーであり、きわめて小さい消費エネルギーで高い耐干渉性を発揮し、他の無線通信システムとの共存も容易です。UWBは、資産トラッキング、セキュア決済、パーソナルトラッカー、リアルタイム位置情報サービス、車両へのキーレスアクセス／始動など、さまざまなアプリケーションに使用されます。米国調査会社ABI Research（ABIリサーチ）の予測によると、2026年までに、UWBデバイスの年間出荷台数は10億を大幅に上回る見込みです。2026年に出荷されるほぼすべてのスマートフォンでUWBサービスがサポートされるようになります。UWBデバイスのテスト面について言えば、一般に他の無線製品と同様に、2つのテスト方法を採用できます。1つは、電子計測器と被試験デバイス（DUT）の間を有線でRF接続する従来のテストモード（いわゆる伝導テスト）で、もう1つはOTA電波暗室での無線（OTA）テストモードです。コスト、スペース、複雑さ、製品のRFコネクタへのダイレクトアクセスなどの制限要因により、伝導モードでテストできるとは限らない場合もあれば、伝導モードでのテストが必ずしも必要ではない場合もあります。この場合は、OTAテストは避けられない方法になってきます。さらに、OTAテストは実条件でのDUTの使用を反映しています。このアプリケーションノートでは、無線製造テスト（WMT）環境におけるトランスミッター（Tx）、レシーバー（Rx）、Time of Flight（ToF）テストに対応するR&S® OTAテストソリューションについて説明します。本書に記載されている測定結果は、NXPのTrimension™ NCJ29D5 UWB車載用ICに基づいています。
