The R&S®ZVA offers a new technique for measuring the group delay of frequency converters without access to the embedded local oscillator or its reference signal. This method requires a four-port R&S®ZVA with two sources to apply a two-tone signal to the converter. The R&S®ZVA evaluates the group delay by measuring the phase differences between both carriers at the input and the output of the DUT. Frequency drift or even frequency modulation of the internal LO does not affect the measurement result, as long as the frequency deviation is within the measurement bandwidth of the R&S®ZVA.
